Answers to FAQs

Why does Dr. Galligan focus on risk assessment?

Risk assessment helps Dr. Galligan better understand how to customize preventive dentistry for your future oral health. He uses CaMBRA cavity risk assessment, a system of evaluating a patient’s unique oral situation. With the information he gains through CaMBRA cavity risk assessment, Dr. Galligan can develop a preventive dentistry plan to preserve your healthy, natural teeth, gums and adjacent bone. He also prioritizes and assesses risk for gum health, or periodontal health. The mouth is a gateway to your body. When bad bacteria get into the bloodstream through your mouth, your risk for serious overall health complications increases. Gum disease has been linked to heart attack, stroke, respiratory conditions, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and other serious health problems. When you attend regular checkups and follow through with your treatment plan and daily oral hygiene routine, Dr. Galligan can help you prevent dental problems – and potentially overall health problems.

What is minimally invasive dentistry (MID)?

As a dentist who believes in minimally invasive dentistry, Dr. Galligan first and foremost works with patients to prevent oral disease. When restorative dentistry is required, he only removes damaged tissue. State-of-the-art magnification and technology allow the dentist to preserve an optimal amount of natural, healthy tissue, for both teeth and gums. Conservative dental procedures are the key to minimally invasive dentistry. Dr. Galligan is a member of the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Dentistry and continually researches the latest procedures to reduce and prevent dental disease for our patients.

How can you help me overcome my dental anxiety?

In addition to the calm and comforting atmosphere in our office, each of our team members is committed to creating a positive experience for you and your loved ones. The whole philosophy behind preventive and minimally invasive dentistry is to keep you from dental pain and extensive procedures. Regular dental visits will not only make you feel more confident and secure at our office, but with risk assessment and preventive dentistry, you’ll be less likely to need restorative care. Furthermore, Dr. Galligan uses The Wand STA anesthesia, a computerized method of anesthesia delivery that optimizes comfort and truly localizes numbing. If the sound and vibration of the dental drill bother you, the dentist can use air abrasion in many situations. Air abrasion is a minimally invasive cavity preparation tool that may eliminate the need for you to have anesthesia. If you suffer from dental anxiety, you aren’t alone. Estimates show that nearly half of Americans avoid dental care because of fear or stress. Tell us about your concerns, and our team will work with you for a fresh and rewarding approach to dental visits.
